Calaveras County Parks and Recreation Commission

Mission Statement

The Calaveras Parks and Recreation Commission was established by the County of Calaveras to initiate the process of creating an efficient and adequately funded system of parks and recreational programs within Calaveras County.

The Commission is to provide a supporting role to local governments as well as non-profit and volunteer organizations that provide existing park facilities and programs currently serving county residents. In locations not currently within an agency, the Commission shall be the local provider for new facilities as they are proposed and funded.

The initial year's efforts will be two-fold. The Commission will ensure allocated grant funds for existing proposed projects are finalized and the facilities are built according to the commitments on the use of those funds. Secondly, the parkland dedication program shall be institutionalized and made operational.

The longer term effort (one to three years) will be to work with local government agencies and community organizations on developing a Parks and Recreation Master Plan for the county and on developing a permanent governmental structure that will be capable of implementing the Master Plan.

The Calaveras Parks and Recreation Commission will work to become self-supporting within three years and, following the development of the Recreation Master Plan, become a Special District independent of county government within five years.

The Commission was established on 22 May 2007 by Board of Supervisor's Resolution 07-083

Commissioners

Commissioners are appointed by the Board of Supervisors:

Commissioner Vanessa Turner represents the 1st Supervisorial District, which includes the communities of San Andreas, Valley Springs, Campo Seco, La Contenta, Commanche, Burson and Wallace. e-mail. Term expires on December 31, .

Commissioner Pat McGreevy represents the 2nd Supervisorial District, which includes the communities of Mokelumne Hill, Paloma, West Point, Wilseyville, Glencoe/Rail Road Flat, Sheep Ranch and Mountain Ranch. e-mail. Term expires on December 31, .

Commissioner Sid Marsh represents the 3rd Supervisorial District, which includes the Ebbetts Pass area down to, but not including Murphys. e-mail. Term expires on December 31, .

Commissioner Mason Goodale represents the 4th Supervisorial District, which includes the communities of Angels Camp, Murphys, Highway 4 West to, but not including Copperopolis. e-mail. Term expires on December 31, .

Commissioner Dena McAfee represents the 5th Supervisorial District, which includes the residents of Copperopolis, Salt Spring Valley, Milton, Jenny Lind, and Rancho Calaveras. Term expires on December 31, . e-mail

Commissioner Don Stump represents the Calaveras County Water District, which serves the Arnold to Forest Meadows, Valley Springs to Jenny Lind, and West Point to Wilseyville. e-mail

Calaveras County Fish & Game Commission

The Calaveras County Fish and Game Commission meet the fourth Wednesday of each month, January through October, at 5:30PM in the Board of Supervisors Chambers at the Government Center in San Andreas.

Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission

Mission Statement

The Calaveras County Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission is a public conscience in interest of justice for youth. The Commission encourages and supports the planning, development, and evaluation of programs that prevent delinquency, improve the Juvenile Court System and provide a leadership forum for citizen action.

The Commission encourages representatives of all agencies, organizations and individuals interested in youth of Calaveras County to attend and actively participate during Commission meetings.

The Commission meets the fourth Thursday of every month. Meetings start at 5:00 p.m.

Meetings are held at the CalWorks Building, 509 E. St. Charles St, San Andreas.

PEG Commission

PEG Commission vacancies need filling for Public Access TV

The PEG Commission, which offers guidance to Calaveras Public Access TV (PATV), needs two volunteer commissioners.

The vacancies that need filling are from District 1 (San Andreas) and District 4 (Angels Camp/Murphys).

The seven-member PEG Commission meets two to four Monday afternoons a year.

Residents of Districts 1 and 4, who are interested in the success of PATV, are encouraged to apply for a position on the PEG Commission.
