Calaveras County Supervisorial Districts
SUPERVISORIAL REDISTRICTING PROCESS

Background
Following each decennial federal census, and using that census as a basis, the Board of Supervisors is required to adjust the boundaries of the supervisorial districts so that they are as nearly equal in population as is practical, in accordance with the applicable provisions of the federal Voting Rights Act. In establishing the boundaries of the districts, the Board must also consider the following factors: (a) topography, (b) geography, (c) cohesiveness, contiguity, integrity, and compactness of territory, and (d) community of interests of the districts. (Cal. Elec. Code Section 21500.)

The most accurate method of determining district boundries requires use of the GIS tools found on this site. Below are some brief steps to get you started:
(only works with Internet Explorer)
  • Go to the GIS home page (menu to left) and select the Parcel Information Rerieval Tool.
  • Take a moment to read the basic instruction provided.
  • Click 'Select Layers' in the blue set of buttons in the upper right.
  • Under 'District Layers', place a check mark in the 'Sup Layer'.
  • Click the 'Refresh Map' button below the list of layers.
  • Click the 'Zoom In' tool in the green set of buttons in the upper left.
  • Starting anywhere on the county map, hold down your left mouse button and draw a square around the area you want to zoom in on.
  • Continue to draw squares around the area of interest until you have zoomed to the detail you want to see. You will see district boundies drawn on parcel lines.
  • To identify a parcel, click 'ID Parcel' in the green set of buttons in the upper left and then click on the parcel in question and the parcel information will appear.
For a more detailed use of this and other GIS tools, select GIS from the menu to the left.
